This week, we say farewell to the choir who have served St John the Baptist so faithfully for many years. We are deeply grateful for the music they have shared with us and for the dedication, time and talent they have given so generously to the life and worship of our church.
A special word of thanks must go to Liz Watson, who has led the choir with commitment and enthusiasm for many years. Her contribution, along with that of every member of the choir, has enriched our worship and helped us to express our faith through music.
On Sunday 6th September, we will gather for a special service of farewell. During the service, each member of the choir will share one of their favourite hymns. Of course, choosing just one favourite is not always easy, and many of our choir members have several! As we sing these much-loved hymns together, we will also hear why they have been chosen, with the stories and reflections behind them forming part of our sermon.
As we give thanks for the past, we are also beginning to look towards the future. On Saturday 5th September, from 10am until 12 noon, we will hold a music workshop as we explore new possibilities for music and worship at St John’s. We will be joined by Noah, an organ scholar who is currently living locally in Felixstowe. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you have been involved in church music before or simply have an interest in singing and worship.
Church music and worship are at the heart of life at St John’s. As we move forward, we will continue to explore the richness of our hymn tradition and discover new ways of using music to help us become attentive to the Presence of God.
We give thanks for all that has been, and we look forward with hope and anticipation to all that is yet to come.
